Check out my husband’s presentation on Christopher Alexander at the School of Visual Arts. Great job, Ryan!
My new obsession - 20th century Japanese master painter and wood block artist Itō Shinsui. I can’t stop thinking about Shinsui’s mesmerizing prints I just saw at S Watanabe Color Print in Tokyo’s Ginza area. They are remarkable, hauningly beautiful with so much depth.
I love this painting! Thanks to Bill Moran for introducing Elizabeth Shreve’s work. Shreve’s work is showing now through March 27 at Carl Hammer Gallery.
Kseniya Simonova, a 24 year old artist from Ukraine uses a giant light box, dramatic music, imagination and “sand painting” to interpret Germany’s invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII. She won Ukraine’s Got Talent 2009. Here’s a video of that performance. She’s incredible. Take a moment to watch.
I am completely fascinated by this photo part of a series entitled “The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters” (2009) by London-born, Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare. Here’s an excellent interview with the artist that highlights his fabric work and explains his perspective.
I recently saw a performance piece at the Intercontinental Hotel O’Hare by Chicago-based artist, Sara Schnadt. Schnadt explores networks and both geographic and virtual connectivity through performance art using fabrics. Check out her site.
